Sažetak
Modern telecommunication networks are migrating from switched-based to packet-based networks, which are multi-service oriented. New services are usually very unpredictable in their behavior, and very often bandwidth consuming. At the same time, reliability requirements are set very high, since any interruption can cause huge date losses. In our work, which is concentrated on ATM network, reliability is achieved by introducing extra network resources that are reserved for accepting user traffic from damaged part of the network. When a failure in the network occurs, ATM switch with protection capability, performs protection switching from damaged to protection route. The goal of our work was to find a minimal amount of extra network resources required for protecting all permanent virtual connections present in the network.
