Sažetak
European brown hare syndrome (EBHS) is a highly contagious, acute disease of the European hare (Lepus europeaus) and mountain hare (Lepus timidus) first described int he early 1980s in Northern Europe (Sweden), in Croatia appeared for the first time in 1991. The etiology of EBHS remaind unclear until it was show through animal experiments and electron microscop (EM) analysis that it is caused by a non enveloped positive – strand RNA virus with a diameter of about 32 – 35 nm. It is classified as a calicivirus of the genus Lagovirus. Based on its viral genome it is similar to rabbit haemorrhage disease virus (RHDV) that causes rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) that causes rabbit haemorrhagic disease that results in high mortality amongst wild and farmed rabbits. In the last few years in Croatia sporadically occurs in nature and farms. In the period of 2010 – 2014 years were searched 36 rabbit carcasses of which three were positive at EBHS. Delivered rabbit carcasses on our laboratory (CVI) wich are suspected to EBHS that receiver at autopsy and pathophsyological search. To identify organisms using laboratory testing RT-PCR, wich determine the presence of specific parts of the genome of the virus EBHS. Timely diagnosis of disease EBHS in the nature and farms can affect the prevention of its spread among the population of rabbits.
