Sažetak
It is generally accepted that the continuous improvement and advancement of all aspects of everyday quality-of-life requires more sophisticated solid-state materials. However, the design of new materials with desired and optimized physical properties is a highly challenging task because all responses of a functional solid are determined by the relative orientation of building blocks within the solid which in turn is the result of a very delicate balance of a range of non-covalent interactions. Therefore, to be in position to ‘dial-in’ or tailor a specific property necessitates a much improved understanding of the competition and balance between non-covalent interactions.
