Sažetak
Congenital defects are abnormalities of structure and function that are recognizable before birth (prenatally), at birth, or years later. They may affect a single anatomic structure or function, whole system, or part of several systems. Congenital malformations could be developed as a consequence of heritable defects, infectious agents, toxin exposure and nutritional imbalances. A female French bulldog aged 3 years was brought at the Reproduction and Obstetrics Clinic, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Zagreb in March 2014. The delivery could not be completed normally, so cesarean section was performed. Delivered malformed newborn male puppy died a few minutes after being born. It was one of four littermates, others were macroscopically normal developed. The radiographic and macroscopic examination was performed. Total body and head radiography in LL and DV projection was made. It showed multiple malformated skull bones. The cranial cavity was undeveloped, while occipital, parietal and frontal bone was not physiologically formed. In DV projection, left side of occipital bone was dorsally unfused. Right side of occipital bone was unphysiological formed as bone plate parallel with temporomandibular joint. In both sided projection the mandibules were formed normally. At necropsy, the puppy showed multiple defects including exencephaly associated with neurocranium defects, cleft lip, cleft palate, atrophy of sublingual musculature (geniohyoideus and mylohyoideus muscle). This report is, to the authors’ knowledge, the first description of these multiple malformations in a single puppy.
