Sažetak
The pathogenesis of HLA-B27 associated diseases, including ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is unknown. AS is considered to derive from an appropriate interaction between infectious agents and the host defence mechanisms. We investigated luminol enhanced whole blood chemiluminescence (CL) response of normal polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PL)to 5 common bacterial antigens (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Yersinia enterocolitica, proteus mirabilis, Salmonella typhimurium and Stahylococus aureus) opsonized by 34 AS patients' and normal healty sera. CL reflected patients' serum opsonic activity. The amount of CL varied (peak hight= 1.9 10E4- 4.7 10E4/25 min) but was generally lower than the CL response stimulated by Klebsiella, opsonized by normal healthy control sera (peak hight=3 10E4 - 5.3 10E4/25 min). THE CL response peaked around 25 min for botht patients' and control sera. The decreased CL response of PL to Klebsiella in AS may indicate a defect of polymorphonuclear function in this group of patients which is worthy of further study. Variable CL responses by stimulating normal PL with 5 pathogenic organisms opsonized by normal healthy serum were observed. Each microorganism caused a specific response, Stahylococcus caused high rise and decay. Salmonella caused poorly defned peak over a longer time. Klebsiella, Yersinia and Proteus showed moderate but similar peak.
