Sažetak
Brachytherapy is the oldest radiotherapeutic modality and the first non- surgical oncologic therapy. It can be used in the treatment of a great variety of tumors. The major task of the treatment is to deliver cancerocidal doses of radiation to small volumes of tumor tissue, whilst producing minimal normal tissue toxicity. This could be achieved by the rigidity and stability of the applicators and by conforming the treatment to the tumor. Therapy optimization is performed according to tumor state, distribution and size, brachytherapy technique and dose, dose rate, and acute and long-term normal tissue effects.
