Sažetak
Background: The aim of this research was to determine whether the use of various equipment influences the safety of patients and to determine how nurses perceive the importance of equipment and its influence on human potential. Methods: Research has been conducted using a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 18 questions. The data have been analyzed using a MS Excel program and presented as percentage values. Respondents included randomly selected nurses with different level of education and from different parts of Croatia. Results: 81 respondents participated in the research, mostly between the ages of 20 – 30 years (43%), and 48% of them have been employed between 0 – 10 years, the most of them 54% have a bachelor degree in nursing. 32% of the respondents believe that the equipment surrounding the patient endangers the patient's safety because there is a threat of an electrical shock, faulty installations, defective equipment, and the possibility of equipment falling on the patient because of the equipment not being properly attached to its support, while 27% of the respondents are not familiar with the possible dangers of using electrical equipment. Only 12% of the respondents are familiar with the levels of radiation of each piece of equipment. However, 60% of them think that they can detect equipment malfunction in time. Conclusion: The research shows that there is still some space for the education of health workers in the ICU. They have to be more aware of the hazards for them and the patients caused by using the equipment. The use of technology in patient care has made changes in the improvement of their overall condition, and improved the nurses’ quality and promptness in patient care
