Sažetak
The aim of this work was to define the influence of density of beech wood of different densities to hygroscopic range, equilibrium moisture content (EMC) at ambient conditions, shrinking and swelling coefficients as well as to anti shrink efficiency. For the experimental purposes samples were prepared to form the following variables: wood species of different density, ring orientation (structure), and treatment level. For density tests beech wood samples were prepared from material of distinctively different density ranges marked as B1: (0, 612 – 0, 642 – 0, 666) g/cm3, and B2: (0, 705 – 0, 715 – 0, 734) g/cm3. Laboratory tests implied weight measurements, along with length and width measurements in three pre-defined positions on every sample. Separate panels of tangential and radial structure served for measurements of dimensional changes over their width. Shrinking coefficients of HTW were not reduced in comparison with native beech wood. However, the significant reduction in absolute water uptake resulted in significantly lower EMC values and improved ASE values of HTW. Heat treatment only slightly reduced the density, and the paper brings its influence to physical properties of wood floorings.
