Sažetak
Corrosion behavior of nitrified nickel-titanium (N NiTi) orthodontic wire in artificial saliva and commercial fluoride agents was investigated. All experiment were performed at 37 °C by immersion of N NiTi wire in artificial saliva for 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. At the end of each time interval saliva was taken for analysis of eluted Ni2+ and Ti4+ ions, than the wires were exposed for 5 minutes at 37 °C to the three commercial fluoride agents, rinsed with distilled water and immersed to fresh artificial saliva. Chemical composition of artificial saliva was: 1.5 g/l KCl, 1.5 g/l NaHCO3, 0.5 g/l NaH2PO4–H2O, 0.5 g/l KSCN, 0.9 g/l lactic acid. The following commercial fluoride agents were used: Elmex gelée (7500/5000 ppm of fluoride in form of amine fluorides/sodium fluoride), MI Paste Plus (900 ppm of fluoride in form casein phosphopeptide- amorphous calcium phosphate fluoride (CPP-ACPF)), and Mirafluor-k- gel (6150 ppm of sodium fluoride). For simulation of regular weekly treatments fluoride agents were chosen based on their commercial availability, identical methods of application, various fluoride ion concentrations, various chemical formulations, and differences of pH values. The pH values of artificial saliva, Mirafluor-k-gel, Elmex gelée, MI Paste Plus were 4.8 ; 5.1 ; 5.5 and 6.6, respectively. The amount of eluted Ni2+ and Ti4+ ions in artificial saliva was measured by means of inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). All experiments were performed in triplicate. It was found that the elution of Ni2+ and Ti4+ ions from N NiTi orthodontic wire increases in following order: artificial saliva < MiPaste < Elmex < Mirafluor.
