Sažetak
General description and research questions, objectives, and theoretical framework It has been proved that educational integration is more successful if all participants in the process are better prepared and informed. In the process of education special role belongs to elementary school teachers. Positive attitudes of teachers towards integration are important precondition for successful education of children with difficulties. The purpose of this research was to examine the views of teachers in regular elementary schools in the urban and rural environments of the Republic of Croatia that are attended by students with difficulties. The goals of research are: - to examine the teachers’ views toward students with difficulties, - to examine the differences (if there are any) in views of teachers in regard to the environment in which they work (rural/urban), - to examine the differences (if there are any) in views of teachers in regard to the students age (class teachers/subject teachers) Methods/methodology The examinee sample included 600 teachers. The questioning was anonymous and carried out by Teachers views questionnaire made especially for this purpose. The Questionnaire was made on the basis of theoretical presumptions on dynamics and interactions in relation teacher – pupil. Data were processed by SPSS for Windows program, version 13. Methods of descriptive statistics were applied to process response frequencies on variables for total sample. Expected Outcomes Educational integration of children with difficulties is an important condition for their equal participation in the life of community. For this condition to be achieved it is necessary to make good preparation for successful integration. Results of this research reveal that teachers mostly agree with the statement that educational integration of students with difficulties is useful and it should be successful. However, that educational integration should be successful it is necessary to provide many satisfying objective, subjective and material presumptions and conditions. Results of the research show that these conditions are not always satisfying.
