Sažetak
Over the past centuries in Croatia, due to unavailability of medical care and various economic factors, Catholic priests mostly Franciscans collected for centuries medical experience and recorded it in manuscript collections of recipes called Ijekaruše (Folk-medicine books). They were used to prepare remedies and gave instructions for their use. Ljekaruše are significant for ethnographic and philological study and have historical medical and pharmaceutical importance, since they reflect a tradition of folk medicine. They are an interesting source of information on the treatment of those medicinal plants which are neglected or unknown today in official medicine, although they have medicinal properties. Here for the first time we present the transcript of the last chapter of Velika sinjska ljekaruša (The Great Folk-medicine manuscript from Sinj) titled Od začeća ženskoga poglave, which is transcribed from old Croatian script poljička bosančica to the Latin script. It describes medicinal preparations of plant, animal and mineral origin that were used to treat gynecological and other similar diseases. Velika sinjska ljekaruša contains over 1700 recipes. This folk-medicine book was written around 1750 by an unknown author and is kept in the Archives of the Franciscan monastery in Sinj.
