Sažetak
When planning the development of winter sports tourism two different segments have to be taken into account: the development, i.e. building of sport (skiing) facilities and the building of accommodation facilities. The proper planning of accommodation facility development represents one of the most critical steps in the process of winter sports tourism development, and is based on the average daily peak frequency of demand. The paper starts with the hypothesis that accommodation capacity in winter sport resorts is determined by the number of sport facilities. Regression analysis was conducted in which the dependent variable was the number of beds in 65 winter resorts in Austria, and independent variables included: kilometres of ski runs for alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and Nordic walking, ski lift capacity, the number of funiculars and T-bars, the average number of après-ski possibilities, and the average number of other sport activities. The results of this research could help winter sport destinations in planning and making decisions regarding the building of accommodation facilities, having in mind their basic tourist offer, i.e. skiing.
