Sažetak
The book is based on the EU FP6 research-project Welfare and Values in Europe: Transitions Related to Religion, Minorities and Gender, undertaken in 12 European countries, in the period 2006-2009. This chapter describes and critically examines the Croatian national situation. Specifically, the paper focuses on the characteristics of the welfare system in Croatia, the religious situation in Croatia with the emphasis on the role of the Catholic Church, and the role of the Church in welfare. In addition, the particular attention is devoted to the position of women in society, the relations between the Catholic Church and gender, as well as to the issues of minorities, and majority-minority relations, both in terms of ethnicity and religion.
