Sažetak
We first recognize the place and importance of poetic forms in the Scriptures overall. But while doing this, we need to ‘filter out’ poetry forms from prose texts. At first glance, this may seem a relatively easy task as most poetic texts are easily classified. It should be noted that many of Jesus’ sayings are delivered (recorded) in poetic form. Thus grasping and comprehending a biblical poet brings us to “new levels of understanding” How does a poet say what he says? As we attempt to spread out the tools of a Hebrew poet and the problems which a translator will face, it is necessary to say that with poetic forms, more than with prose texts, one has to be constantly aware not only of what the poet says but how he wants to say it. For a translator of Hebrew biblical poetry, some aspects will prove to be very difficult to transfer from language to language, metrical requirements for instance, while others, like parallelism and repetitions, may be easier to tackle.
