Sažetak
The area where Maksimir Park is today was at its beginning, over 200 years ago, on the outskirts of Zagreb. It is now completely surrounded with artificial surfa ces (mostly residential areas). On its 316 hectares, it represent a real oasis for flora and fau na in a matrix of habitats with: prevailing Sessile oak and Common hornbeam forest, pedunculate oak forest, meadows and lakes. Besides native flora, as a consequence of long term horti cultural activities in park there are a number of non-indigenous plants, mostly tree species, of which some of them are recognised as invasive. Numerous surrounding gardens can also serve as source of propagules of many ornamental plants, which can naturalise and become invasive.
