Sažetak
Electrical properties of iron phosphate glasses have been investigated in Croatia for more than one decade. Polaronic conduction in these glasses takes place by electron hopping from low to high iron valence state. However, by altering composition (addition of MoO3, Cr2O3, Bi2O3, PbO, Na2O) and preparation conditions, the electrical conductivity of iron phosphate based glasses may vary over many orders of magnitude. Recently, the influence of nanocrystallization on the electronic conductivity of iron phosphate glasses has been studied. The analysis shows a drop in electrical conductivity for two orders of magnitude in an early stage of nanocrystallization. At higher concentration of nanocrystallites which are interconnected by the glassy phase the continuous interfaces are created which enhances the electrical conductivity. Upon further heating the sample undergoes a further nanocrystallization causing slight decrease in the electrical conductivity as a result of the partial blocking of electrons at grain boundaries and the decrease of the easy conduction paths. This presentation will give an overview of our recent studies of electronic and ionic transport in iron phosphate glasses and its crystallized counterparts.
