Sažetak
The problem of electromyographic representation of silent period is mainly connected with the subjectivity of interpretation of some components in SP. There are different methods of eliciting and also different methods in interpretation, which give different ranges in parameters of latencies as well as duration of SP. In the introduced method the sounds of teeth occlusion are recognisable from the moment of first tooth contact and the latency of the SP is measured from that point till the depression of muscle activity (till the last significant peak of the EMG signal). Alpha-component of the sound is well recognisable in healthy and nondisturbed dentition, but prolonged under some conditions of occlusal disturbances. Some of these findings were used for the development of a new method for automated measurement and evaluation of SP, which makes interpretation less time consuming and more accessible for the routine practice.
