Sažetak
Sepia orbignyana was studied in the eastern part of the northern and central Adriatic Sea on the samples collected during MEDITS research expeditions from 1996 to 2011. The species is distributed in the central Adriatic Sea and some areas of the northern Adriatic Sea, at depths between 22 and 237 m, with greater density recorded from 50 to 200 m. An analysis of the population was performed on a sample of 249 specimens (MEDITS 2007 - 2011). Sex ratio (m/f) was 1.27:1. Mantle length of specimens ranged from 22 to 100 mm and body weight from 1.3 to 96.65 g. The length-weight relationship is negatively allometric (b = 2.5749), and the growth coefficient was higher for females than for males. A morphometric analysis showed the existence of sexual dimorphism in two morphometric sizes: females had longer tentacular clubs and males had longer arms. The mantle length at first sexual maturity was 58 mm in males and 66 mm in females. Fecundity of mature females was found to vary between 77 and 806 oocytes, with an average of 365 and a standard deviation of 179. In the gonads of mature females oocytes at different stages of development were found, indicating that the species has an intermittent terminal spawning. Oocytes length measured from 0.21 to 10.09 mm. The number of spermatophores ranged from 32 to 597 (178 ± 123 SD), and the length from 3.32 to 11.81 mm (7.95 ± 1.49 SD).
