Sažetak
In this work, the effect of bentonite quality on mold mixture properties was investigated. Investigations were done with commercial type of bentonite. Testing mixtures were prepared with bentonite, water and sand. Investigations of technological properties were done in foundry „Plamen d.o.o.“, Požega. Compressive strength and wet tensile strength were determined before and after calcination at 550 °C, during 2 hours. Chemical analysis was performed by X-ray Fluorescence (XRF). Fourier Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to get insight in bentonite structure. Particle size of investigated samples was determined by Laser Diffraction. Gas adsorption-desorption analysis was performed to determine specific area, pore volume and distribution of pore volume. Thermal stability of bentonites was studied by simultaneous thermal analysis Differential Thermal Analysis/Thermogravimetry (DTA/TG). Simulation of mold mixture temperatures during casting was obtained by software MAGMA SOFT®. Temperature of dehidroxylation process proved to be the key factor for bentonite quality as a material for application in foundry industry.
