Sažetak
The enzymes matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) comprise a large family of structurally related zinc metalloendopeptidases with different substrate specificities and possibilities to degrade protein constituents of the extracellular matrix. The etiopathogenesis of colorectal cancer is very complex and included: genetic and environmental factors, chronic inflammation, stress, nutrition, age, viruses, suffered cancer, habits, etc. Subjects and methods: We investigated immunological status and level of MMP-9 in patients with colorectal cancer. The phenotypic profiles of peripheral blood lymphocytes were done by flow cytometry. The method of enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) was used to determine enzyme expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). Statistical data were calculated using computer program Statistica 7.1. Results: Patients with colorectal cancer have statistically significant augmentation of level of MMP-9 in urine and increased the cells of innate immunity (NKT and regulatory T cells) in comparison with healthy volunteers. Conclusion: Our results showed a large increase in the enzyme MMP-9 in the urine and the percentage of the cells of innate immunity in peripheral blood of patients with colorectal cancer with significant correlation of these values.
