Sažetak
Helathcare-industry development strategy is a strategic document which is important for the sustainable development of the healthcare system of the County of Primorje-Gorski Kotar (CPG) as well. The document is based upon the connection of the healthcare system with industry (private and public sector). Investing in the development of healthcare industry of CPG will have a strong influence upon health, life, and social welfare of the citizens of CPG. The investment in healthcare industry, as suggested by the Strategy, implies investing in medical education and health resources, but also in the increased income of the local government, which will be able to additionally invest in healthcare system, resulting in the better quality of healthcare. Materials and Methods The Strategy is based on the analysis of the following documents: 1. Health legislative of Croatia and EU ; 2.The achievements of previous strategic documents ; 3. Basic analysis of public and private healthcare sector, and economic achievements ; 4. General developmental goals of CPG ; and 5. SWOT analysis for 11 public and 12 private health institutions of PGC. A SWOT analysis of healthcare institutions in CPG has suggested six specific goals: there is a strong requirement for a general medium-term specialisation plan for physicians (private and public healthcare institutions) ; a brend has to be created and promoted for healthcare institutions (according to their specialty) ; partner collaboration is needed between tourism, sport, and other sectors and the healthcare system ; the University Hospital has to be completed as well as the Health Technology Park ; public-private partnership has to be stimulated ; the “Healthcare Industry Project” of CPG has to be promoted. Conclusions: The main goals of the Healthcare Industry Development Strategy are: 1. The future development of private and public health institutions of CPG ; 2. Strengthening the position and competitiveness of healthcare industry by the better positioning of health services within the private and public sector ; 3. The construction and development of Health Technology Park as a basis for healthcare industry.
