Sažetak
Through history nations guarded their heritage by celebrating religious, national and traditional solemnities, and with that guarded and transferred culture of one nation to future generations. The influence of modern discoveries and the modern way of life have brought new values which have in some aspects suppressed traditional values. Preschool institutions are places where children from different religious, national and social family surroundings meet. This puts a great challenge before preschool institutions – to unite all child experiences into one common, which will include and respect all of the previously acquired. The institutional form of upbringing can influence the conservation of tradition because of respect of every child’s individuality – by letting children to enrich social interactions with their cultural and social heritage. Preschool institution is an institution in which, by following the rhythm of the calendar year, all solemnities can be included and used as an influence for new activities which are important for the child to get a feeling of belonging – to a group of peers, a nation or a homeland. Feeling of belonging is an important link in a social and emotional development of a child. A child is a resident of the world, and as a one it has to meet cultural values which have a universal message. For it to be more successful in it, it has to first know the values of the surroundings it is growing up in. Institutes of early and preschool upbringing have to be the link which joins tradition and the modern way of life.
