Sažetak
Paul Ramsey made the following statement in his book „The Patient as Person“: “ The patient must not be reduced to the condition of means since he or she is a person.” And from its beginnings until now the concept of person is in the centre of bioethical debates and thoughts. This concept is present when we talk about respect for persons or when we talk about the concept of dignity of the person, human dignity. It is also present when we look at every day medical practices from the point of view of different ethical theories especially, personalism. The concept of person is not only present in theoretical debates but also in everyday ethical discussions connected with provision of healthcare implicitly or explicitly. Because when we treat patient we do not ask ourselves: is this a person? It is because the patient is suffering that the caregivers treat him or her as a person. This contribution aims to give a short overview of the different theories and views on the concept of the person when it comes to bioethical debates and to see what the future of this concept is.
