Sažetak
Peptid-M is a small molecular weight protein, that showes sequence homology to the different skin, ocular, cerebral, vascular and collagen antigenic structures. Some findings suggest that Peptid-M induced the normalization of chromosomally aberrant lymphocytes in patients suffering from several immune-mediated diseases (multiple sclerosis, SSPE, leukemia, uveitis, hereditary eosinophilia, etc. Conventional mutagenic tests performed in vitro on peripheral blood lymphocytes showed that stimulation of lymphocytes with small doses of Peptid-M (LupexŽ) caused a dissapearance of different types of chromosome aberrations, as compared to control. After in vitro treatment of lymphocytes with Peptid-M (LupexŽ) a reduced number of micronuclei, a decrease in frequencies of SCE as well as a slight cytostatic effect on mitosis cycles were detected. The observed findings suggest the possible role of Peptid-M (LupexŽ)in immunotherapy of different diseases which involve chromosomal aberrations as well abnormal cell proliferation, but it awaits further investigation. The modelling of the immune response, cell cycle and apoptosis with Peptid-M and related short peptides will be discussed.
