Sažetak
The introductory section of the paper presents the volume and structure of forest resources in the Republic of Croatia. The subsequent pages provide an overview of the legal and institutional framework for the activities of entrepreneurs in the Croatian forestry with particular attention to licensing. The central part of the paper presents the current state of entrepreneurship in the Croatian forestry sector - the number of businesses, size, type of forest operations for which they are licensed, state of health and safety, etc. The authors explain the role of the Croatian Chamber of Forestry and Wood Processing Industry Engineers (CCFWPIE) in the process of licensing of forest entrepreneurs and the process of professional training of forestry experts. The criteria and minimum conditions for acquisition and renewal of licenses for carrying out forest operations are cited. The final section of the paper gives an assessment of the current state and perspectives of entrepreneurship in the Croatian forestry in the light of current European process of standardization and certification of competences (ConCert). It points to the necessary steps to join key European processes and programs.
