Sažetak
Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a nonstandard diagnostic method used for determining the composition of a sample. The measured results can be either qualitative or quantitative, depending on availability of calibration data. Usually, conducting LIBS experiments under atmospheric conditions is cumbered with nitrogen due to its rich molecular and atomic spectral emission which tends to mask other relevant spectral features. Therefore, the measurements have been performed in mixed ambient gases (Ar, He, N2, O2). Another benefit of using controlled atmosphere is the enhancement of emission signal. For some applications this means that lower fluence can be used thus minimizing the ablation damage on the sample surface. Here, we have used LIBS for determining which chemical elements are present in certain metallic alloys (coins). Results show that while qualitative data is easily achievable, quantitative data is less reliable, and for that reason complete plasma diagnostics is needed.
