Sažetak
Beside the “usual” beehive products that are of common use in human nutrition as food, how often do consumers use products containing components belonging to the palette of the beehive products? The answer is not simple and unambiguous because their everyday use is, indeed, very wide. Sectors of food industry and food supplement (honey, royal jelly, propolis, pollen), cosmetics (beeswax, royal jelly, propolis...), additional remedies (honey, propolis and processed product), application in active therapy (bee venom) etc., they all have something in common – perception or expectation of positive health impact. Basis for this belief lies in several millennia of the joint path of bees and humans. Recognising the need for the institution that will on national level, deal with the promotion of apitherapy as particular use of the beehive products for “the improvement of health, removal of pain, suffering and incapacity for the work”, initiative taken several years ago has finally resulted with foundation of the Croatian Apitherapy Society (Hrvatsko Apiterapijsko Društvo, HAD) in November 2011. HAD was founded as professional society with its’ legal seat at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, with the task of development and active promotion of Croatian apitherapy based on scientifically proven health characteristics as well as on clear professional and technical standards. In this report, presentation of HAD will be given, based on its’ activities that have mainly been directed toward setting up and management of the network of experts involved in apitherapy with particular emphasize on their scientific and technical development. Furthermore, it will illustrate some projections in preparing the scientific and technical apitherapy meetings and symposia as well as the establishment of the professional liaison with related organizations. It will also deal with the fact that HAD has given itself the task of the advisory activity for medical and scientific community about the significance of apitherapy applications. Particular determinant of HAD’s activity will be tackled as well, particularly the engagement in setting up the standards and guidelines for professional apitherapy procedures, apitherapist training and certification as well as assertion of improvements in technical education related to apitherapy applications.
