Sažetak
Follicular cyst is a benign dermal lesion arising from all three segments of hair and filled with a greater amount of keratin. The cycle of hair growth, cell layers and their degree of differentiation is essential for the precise determination of follicular cysts. In a period of four years in the Department of Veterinary Pathology has been diagnosed a total of 33 cysts origin from hair follicle in different breeds of dogs. Diagnosis was carried out according to WHO histological classification due to 12 specific criteria. The results showed that 69.7% were solitary and 30.3% were multiple cysts, while 39.39% were infundibular, 33.33% hybrid, 24.24% isthmus and 3.03% were matrical cysts. A hair origin cyst represents a favorable diagnosis and prognosis for the patient. In 50% of cysts the differentiation was difficult, because of atrophy of the cyst wall. In those cases diagnosis and the etiology were carried out by analysis of keratin content. Traumatic and congenital etiology was confirmed in 20 of 33 cysts. Dog’s population in Croatia have very low incidence of cysts of follicular origin. In the context of histopathological diagnostics and classification follicular cysts represents a diagnostic challenge.
