Sažetak
Skin neoplasms, are a common problem in the small animal practice. Pilomatricomas and trichoepitheliomas are benign skin neoplasms of hair matrix origin with low incidence. Both tumors are only follicular origin neoplasms with malignant potential due to high mitotic rate of matrical epithelial cells. During the period of four years 70 hair neoplasms were selected from 617 skin neoplasms of dogs in Croatia. Based on 28 parameters 22 tumors were selected as pilomatricomas and as 15 trichoepitheliomas. The aim of this work is presentation of differences between those two tumors which share many of histomorphological and clinical features. Pilomatricomas in our study are composed of multiple cystic structures of varying size lined by small dark basaloid keratinocytes and filled with keratinized ghost cells. Trichoepitheliomas are composed of numerous small cysts. Differentiation of pilomatricomas from treichoepitheliomas is based on the size of cysts and by the absence or very limited presence of nonmatrical squamos epithelium. Common age of appearance for pilomatricoma was 5, 43 years and for trichoepithelioma 8, 31 years. Due to the small incidence of these tumors, no sex, breed or age predisposition was determined. Other parameters are consistent with literature data.
