Sažetak
In the last couple of years, consumers are more and more interested in the origin of and ways of food production, and in that matter they buy their food. Consumers are interested how farm animals were treated during production and slaughter process. Consumers demand that one should use humane methods of slaughter and killing. In this paper information were collected with questionnaire. Our questionnaire was carried out in the period from October to December of 2011, on the 187 randomly selected people from territory of Sisačko – moslavačka County, Grad Zagreb and Zagrebačka County. In the research participated 45, 5% males and 54, 5% females. Questionnaire lasted for 7-15 minutes. Before full scale survey we have tested it on the 5 examinees so that we can avoid misunderstandings in the scheme and formulation of questions. Survey had 23 questions which were selected in different groups. Similar to the already taken survey in Croatia, and the consumer attitudes in EU, majority of our examinees state great care about farm animal welfare in slaughterhouses. Although there is a great care about welfare, consumers do not take into consideration welfare when they are buying meat. The sample size and sampling principles in this research enables us to state some conclusions regarding Croatians consumers and their attitudes towards farm animal welfare in abattoirs. This survey should be repeated on the bigger scale of examinees thru all Croatian regions.
