Sažetak
Information literacy in the field of law is based on a large number of specific aspects, even unique ones, compared to other fields of science. Because of constant development of the new fields of law new demands in knowing and interpreting law are placed in front of the Croatian legal scholars and legal practitioners. In order to do their job with quality and on time, it is necessary to know well how to find and use both the European and the international legal documents available in relevant databases. Therefore the need for development is particularly emphasized when it comes to the law students, not only regarding their generic information literacy skills but also contextual/specific information literacy skills necessary for the development their life long competencies, needed not only during their academic education, but also for their future as lawyers. In this context the following research questions arise: What sources do law students use regarding the changes in educational environment? Which factors influence their choice of information sources for study? What determines the choice of printed or e- formats used for study? How much does the source for study depend on the requirements made by the faculty staff (teaching strategies, learning techniques, are the students being pointed to a specific format)? How much depends on the availability to access the resources in academic library or outside of library? Do students use the library at all in their choice of study sources? How much do their previous and current competences influence the choice of study resources? How much does the library influence through education for the development of information literacy competences? The answers to these questions are based on a pilot study in which qualitative research method of focus groups is used. The research includes four main groups of questions focused on the attitudes of students in selecting the study sources with regards to the influence of the faculty staff, access to the sources, students’ information competency and the format which they choose. The obtained results of the pilot study will serve to set the appropriate indicators for a broader future research and understanding of the context of information literacy in the field of law, and for creating adequate information literacy programmes for law students performed by the faculty library.
