Sažetak
Memantine Hydrochloride, chemically 1-amino-3, 5-dimethyladamantane is an active pharmaceutical substance, available in the product marketed under the brands Namenda®, Axura® and Ebixa®. It is used in treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer’s type dementia. It is estimated that there were 36 million people living with dementia worldwide in 2010., increasing to 66 million by 2030. and 115 million by 2050. Although there is no cure to reverse effects of Alzheimer’s disease, Memantine (Figure 1.) can help manage symptoms of the disease. It acts as an uncompetitive antagonist at glutameric NMDA receptors improving the exchange of signals between cells in the brain essential to learning and memory functions. Memantine Hydrogensulfate and Memantine Dihydrogenphosphate are successfully prepared and characterized. On the basis of current research, due significantly better crystal morphology and hygroscopicity, Memantine Hydrogensulfate is a good candidate to be an alternative salt to Memantine Hydrochloride for future formulation studies
