Sažetak
The paper presents basic biographical information about the Montenegrin writer Savić Marković Štedimlija. Ten Years in the Gulag is analyzed with respect to three determinants of a memoir narrative structure: the content, the rhetorical nature of the text and the identity of the subject. Štedimlija’s records about his stay in the Siberian and Ukrainian camps cover the period between 1945 and 1955. This polidiscursive memoir is a testimony of the historical events from the author’s point of view as a witness and an exemplary prisoner in which he mixes the narration of personal and social issues. The complex narrative framework in the first and third person narration forms Štedimlija’s multiple identity of the memoir’s subjest who is at the same time a fictional character as well. The memoir represents an impressive display of concentration camp life, important historical facts og the post-Second World War period, but also a convincing illustration of the Russian mentality and life in the Soviet Union.
