Sažetak
During the process of working in an environment with elevated temperatures the human body is exposed to various dangers. If this danger is not possible to remove or reduce the technical and organizational measures, it is required to use adequate protective clothing. In this work the implementation and use of clothing for protection against heat and flame was described, and the damage that can appear on such clothing after exposure to accident situations was analyzed. The damage of to two-piece suit (pants and jacket), made of fire resistant materials was investigated. Suit has been exposed to open flames in the fire manikin 6s. The temperature was 850° C and the suit was exposed to this temperature for 2 minutes. Investigations at the fire manikin Žiga were conducted in collaboration with Biomed Ltd. and Josef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. After exposure the suit to effects of heat and open flame, visual evaluation of appearance of suits' rest was made. Obtained results have show that the suit at different places has different degrees of damage. Damages on suit and risks to human health and life depend partially to fit suit. Seams at the suit were made from thread which was made of 100% polyester fibres and have the effect of heat and flames shrink, and on the microscopic images can see rest of melded thread. These observations show that the thread is not properly chosen and all materials used in the production of protective clothing against heat and flames should be fire resistant. In the pictures of suit before and after effect of heat and flame, it is evident that a material was shrinkage, which is confirmed by microscopic images of the structure of the fabric before and after exposure of heat and flame. During exposure of high temperature and flame material was melting, and during their re-connecting surface is metalized and material is shrinkage. Research and testing of materials and clothing systems for protection against heat and flame, and the proper selection of materials and design it can be greatly contribute to protecting the lives of people whose job is to work in vicinity of high temperature and flame, and especially those whose job is to rescue others from such hazards.
