Sažetak
The needs to travel, to spend one's free time in a meaningful way, and to engage in cultural activities, are shared by all humans. This paper presents an outline of basic groups of needs and particular motives which arise from these needs. The author attemts to answer the question: ‘What is the reason for an individual to choose a particular event?’ by describing concepts of the decision making process taking a part in connection with an event ; as a part of event management. Notably, tourists-visitors compare various experiences through various sources of information and on the basis of a wide variety of outer and inner influential factors. The PIECE method explains the steps involved in recognising a problem, searching for information, evaluating, and seaching for alternatives. A further focus is the post-event evaluation with the aim of evaluating tourists’ behaviour and predicting future strategies and tactics for achieving competitiveness for cultural events.. Finally, the paper analyses tourists’ motivation for attending cultural events in Croatia. Research results show that one third of tourist consider themselves culturally motivated tourists in regards to their inclination to attending a cultural event. Desire to discover culture, history and heritage of a tourist destination are the main motives for attending a cultural events. Cultural events are also visited due to their image and reputation, to satisfy guests' inherent curiosity, and for social reasons. Besides ”heritage tourism”, there is a global trend towards ”creative tourism” which encompasses workshops and courses.
