Sažetak
This paper is based on the comparative analysis of structure and chemical composition of the species Satureja montana L. gathered over the environmentally intact area of the Dalmatian region of Croatia. In order to prepare plant tissue for microscopic survey, it was first chemically treated and all numeric values were statistically processed. Essential oil was isolated and the composition of volaited components was estabished by means of GC-MS. Examinatons were focused on the leaf anatomy with glandular structure of the leaf indicates a number of xeromorphic adaptations: palisade parenchvma on the circumference, specially adapted cells with intercellulars in middle of the leaf, hypodermis, thickened and wrinkled cuticle and elongated dead hair cells allowing for the formation of glandular structure among them. These structures are made of fourteen cells witch end in subctuticular area filled with essential oil with carvacrol as a main constituent. The link between the produced quantity of oil and the number of glands was established in relation with changes in the amount of percipitations during the plant growth.
