Sažetak
The effect of the presence of Au(III) ions on the formation of α-FeOOH in a highly alkaline precipitation system was investigated using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Mössbauer and FT-IR spectroscopies, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Acicular α-FeOOH particles precipitated in a highly alkaline medium with the addition of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) were used as reference material. The presence of Au(III) ions in the precipitation system resulted in the formation of α-FeOOH lath- like particles and reduction to metallic gold in the form of oval-shaped colloidal particles. α- FeOOH particles showed gradual elongation with an increase in the initial concentration of Au(III) ions. XRD line positions, hyperfine magnetic field (HMF) values and the positions of infrared absorption bands of α-FeOOH indicate no significant incorporation of Au(III) into the structure of α-FeOOH.
