Sažetak
Mössbauer spectroscopy is a technique based on the effect of resonantly emitting and absorbing nuclear g-rays as discovered by Rudolf Mössbauer (1961 Nobel Prize for Physics). Very soon, Kistner and Sunyar (Phys. Rev. Lett. 4(1960)412-415) observed the existence of the isomer shift and quadrupole splitting in alpha-Fe2O3 using 14.4 keV gamma ray. This experiment marked the beginning of a broad application of Mössbauer effect in physics, chemistry, geochemistry, materials science and other fields. Specifically, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy has found very important applications in the investigation of iron oxides both natural and synthetic. The properties of precipitated iron oxides obtained in laboratory depend on the physico- chemical conditions of their synthesis, the type of iron salt, the presence of ”foreign“ cation or the surface active agent. The precipitation of iron oxides is present in natural water systems, wastes, or it is seen as corrosion of iron (steel) in everyday life. In these precipitation processes iron oxides undergo complex phases and microstructural changes.
