Sažetak
The gift of life is priceless ; therefore those involved in deliberate ending of life bear a tremendous burden of moral responsibility. This primarily refers to the unborn child's mother and father as well as to the physicians and other medical personnel, other family members, and the social community promoting artificial abortion through legal provisions. The physicians are those who should rise in defense of the uniqueness and inimitableness of prenatal development. The term 'prenatal euthanasia' implies therapeutic and eugenic abortion. The physicians and other medical professionals can refuse performing such procedures based on conscientious objection. "Conscience is the man's most secret core and sanctuary where man is alone with God and His voice resounding in his/her inner personality" (Gaudium et Spes, 16). Ethical and moral criteria should include due respect for the human being inviolability in his/her bodily and spiritual integrity and in all his/her developmental stages. All medical institutions have ethics committees, which are useful and frequently irreplaceable in the field of biomedicine and bioethics, however, their judgments represent just a standard agenda (rule of performance) or simply a recommendation, while it is left to the scientist to make his own decision and bear full moral responsibility for it. Man is certainly happier if his horizontal and vertical aspects, i.e. his physical and spiritual dimensions, are brought into harmony. "What's the use of acquiring the entire world, but doing serious harm to one's life" (Mk 8.36).
