Sažetak
Results of the research carried out in the hunting grounds in the Baranja region (Eastern Croatia), in the period 2007-2010, are presented. The height and diameter of total of 348 pedicles of red deer stags were measured, and age was determined. Results confirms that changes in pedicle height and diameter in red deer stags are significant and related to the age. Correlation coefficient (R=0.65) indicate decreasing of pedicle height with age, and increasing (R=0.85) of pedicle diameter with age. For ensuring the long-term income from hunt on the mature stags, it is necessary to implement accurate selective cull based on age groups. The classification of red deer stags into following age groups is proposed: young (3, 4 and 5 years) ; middle age (6, 7 and 8 year) ; old and mature stags (above 9 year).
