Sažetak
The paper explores the role of local inhabitants in the development of destination tourism, particularly of cultural tourism. Local residents represent an important interest group of a tourist destination, based on whose acceptance or refusal of a tourism development and of creation of tourist products (particularly the ones based on heritage), the future and sucess of products themselves is ensured. If tourism development provides means for life and pleasant area for local inhabitants, i.e. if their quality of life within the tourism destination is not impared, they are satisfied by tourism development. The study researches the attitude of residents towards tourism development and particularly towards cultural tourism. Local inhabitants can show either positive or negative attitudes towards tourism development, mostly depending upon their involvement in tourism, but also upon the tradition of a tourist destination. Both primary (research on attitudes of the Mošćenička Draga Municipality residents) and secondary data are applied. In order to obtain the best possible quality of tourism destination development, local inhabitants should be involved into planning, as products offered to tourists in tourism markets also represent living space and everyday life for local inhabitants.
