Sažetak
Ionizing radiation offers clean and easily regulated way of initiating reactions, independent of the reaction temperature but only few methods can be used for in-situ reaction monitoring. Even in such demanding conditions DC electrical conductivity measurements can be efficiently used to follow the coursee of reaction, especially in organic or polymer-related systems. The instrumentation is simple, relatively inexpensive and parts that might be damaged on irradiation easiliy replaced. A short introduction on electrical conductivity in dielectrics is presented, and factors that might influence the results like radiation induced conductivity, presence or formation of nanomaterials, etc. are discussed. A selection of examples that reveal the scope and sensitivity of electrical conductivity method are given. The correct approach to interpretation of conductivity data is presented and the need to avoid use of logarithmic transformation of original data is stressed. Only if that is obeyed full sensitivty of electrical condductivity method becomes obvious and its results comply to those obtained by non-electrical methods like Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, (FTIR), extraction analysis and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) that cannot be used in in-situ radiation reaction monitoring.
