Sažetak
This paper examines the print and electronic journalism in Croatian language in Zadar from the first newspapers in Croatian language, Kraljski Dalmatin which was issued in 1806 during the period of French government in Zadar, to the appearance of Internet portal at the beginning of the 21st century. Zadar is the fifth largest city in the Republic of Croatia, but by tradition, quality and quantity of journalism, it is ranked very high. It is contributed by the fact that in the 19th century in Zadar were being published over sixty newspapers in Croatian, and such intensity was not significantly reduced in the 20th century as well. The appearance of electronic media contributed the development of journalism in Zadar. The paper deals with the media discourse during the Independence War in Croatia, in early 1990s of the last century. The new socio-political order contributed to the creation of new information and communication system, which reflected the media practice as well. In this paper, there are applied the methods of analysis and synthesis, historical method and the method of comparison. The paper concludes that the Zadar journalism in its research period, in quantitative and qualitative terms, played an important role in the socio-political and cultural life of both Zadar and Croatia.
