Sažetak
The article deals with the ways in which the women of medieval urban settlements of the Sava and Drava interamnium have been coming into the conflict with the law. Different criminal actions in which they were involved (from the lightest ones, such were inflicting of insults and participating in brawls, to the hardest ones, such was murder) are briefly surveyed, and then those criminal deeds which were in a way profession of women committing them (or were, at least, an additional source of income for them), such were theft and prostitution. Belonging of culprits to different social groupings, ways in which the criminal actions were performed, as well as punishments used against them is analysed. It appears that theft and prostitution has been punished by severe punishments (the theft mostly by cutting of an ear and banishment from the city, and prostitution by banishment), but often there were pardons or minimising of punishments. It is interesting that punishment for theft was equal for men and women, which corresponds to relatively favourable position of women in the urban settlements of Sava and Drava interamnium. For deeds connected to prostitution no man was ever accused, so, we cannot see with certainty how the court would be acting in such a case.
