Sažetak
The formation of calcium oxalate in the presence of anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate, NaDS, has been studied in batch precipitation experiments. Spontaneous (unseeded) precipitation was investigated from the solution of an ionic strength, pH, temperature and concentration close to that prevailing in urines. A combination of particle number and size analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy was used to characterize the processes involved. Precipitation was initiated by heterogeneous nucleation. The inhibitory effect of NaDS on the overall crystallization process depended on the actual surfactant concentration, i.e. differently structured surfactant aqueous solutions. NaDS interacts with calcium oxalates at different precipitation stages: (i) below the CMC the adsorption of surfactants starts at the stage of primary particle formation ; (ii) at and above the CMC, NaDS influences the precipitation during the nucleation period by increasing the content of COD
