Sažetak
Introduction. HRANA FINA - Croatian Anatomical and Physiological Terminology is a project of School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb, that is being carried out in collaboration with schools of medicine of other Croatian universities. It is a part of the project Croatian Special Field Terminology - STRUNA financed by Croatian Science Foundation. HRANA FINA aims at gathering and systematization of Croatian anatomical and physiological terminology and at popularizing this terminology among health professionals, medical students and scientists as well as translators and other nonmedical experts who use it in their work. Method. The first phase of the project will be achieved through cooperation between experts in the field of anatomy and physiology and linguistic experts from the Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics. Results. As a result of this cooperation a manual of Croatian anatomical and physiological terminology will be made and all terms with their definitions, Croatian synonyms, equivalents in several European languages and other useful data will be available in a data base of STRUNA. Conclusions. The construction of a base of standardized well-defined terms from different professions will significantly contribute to the preservation of Croatian standard language, especially considering the near entry of Croatia into the EU. A terminology data base will help counteract the indiscriminate usage of loanwords and encourage the usage of specified Croatian terms in speech and writing. HRANA FINA will aid the translation of EU acts which refer to medicine to Croatian language, increase competitiveness of Croatian scientists at the international level and facilitate the involvement of Croatian scientists and medical students in European projects. Additionally, it will increase the quality of high education and facilitate introduction of medical studies in foreign languages at Croatian medical schools. Finally, it will increase the quality of scientific work and facilitate publication of scientific results of Croatian scientists in international publications.
