Sažetak
Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most beautiful and oldest protected areas in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. The principal natural phenomenon is a dynamic system of lakes separated by tufa barriers and waterfalls. Tufa barriers were deposited during the warm episodes of Quaternary period and are still growing. The area was recently endangered by global climate trends, watercourse regulations, forestry and agricultural activities, leaking wastewater systems, war operations and tourist pressure. Eutrophication of lakes is additionally caused by natural input of humus from the surrounding area.
