Sažetak
Technological innovation provides an excellent opportunity for integrating transport modes, optimising their performance, making them safer and helping to make a transport system compatible with sustainable transport development. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) applied to the transport sector, the so called Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), can be a strategic tool for improving road haulage and logistic operators in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, safety, security and environmental sustainability. ICT comprises, in a wide-ranging definition, all technological applications, from the most traditional (management systems) to the most innovative ones (mobile and wireless technologies), which support all different transport processes, in every modality. ITS includes applications that can be integrated into the transportation system's infrastructure, and in vehicles themselves which contribute to enhance productivity and competitiveness, improve transportation safety, assure a high level of service quality at all stages and relieve congestion through the use of advanced communications and information technologies.
