Sažetak
Favourable geotraffic position of the Republic of Croatia is a significant factor for its faster inclusion into the European traffic and transport system. The process of market globalization and liberalization have a considerable influence on the shape of world flow of goods, thus directly affecting on the transport and traffic system, generating economic and especially traffic growth. Therefore, each country, as well as regions, striving for a fast and powerful economic development, should intensify and include the flow of goods by sea into its traffic system. The effort to implement an integrated and coordinated approach to intermodal transport will influence on the creating infrastructural conditions for re-directing the traffic from road to sea, rail and internal waterways, as energetically more efficient and more environmentally fiendly means of transport. This article represents an overview of the authors’ preliminary results on the basis of ongoing research, which will result in a proposal of the Adriatic transport corridor concept as an important part of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor as a function of intermodal transport. Authors’ research have been directed towards defining strategic guidelines of intermodal transport system integration and its potential in environment protection, pre-accession funds and achieving sustainable economic growth of the Republic of Croatia.
