Sažetak
Although the Balkan Wars were supposed to bring the solution for the Eastern Question, this question has remained unsolved until present days. In the politics of the then conflicting states, in the studies of the historians, in the way of thinking of the citizens of these states, even today survives an underlying memory of so many injustices that the “others” have done to “us”, and things that are seen only from “our” perspective. Rare are those who accept that there were also “our” fault plays and errors. The wars were waged with an excuse of rectifying the historical anachronism (life under Turkish barbarism on the European soil in the 20th century) and liberation of “our” fellow nationals from terror and their unification to “our” states adjacent to the Ottoman Empire. The liberated were the last to be asked about such liberations. The population of the European provinces of Empire was put in the nexus of three imperial policies that called for resurrection of the great states that had existed in the remote past. The concurrent revival of the Byzantine Empire, San Stefano Bulgaria and the Serbia of Emperor Dušan was in the realm of political phantasies, but the military and royal circles of Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia were not keen on compromise of any kind. The historiographies of the Balkan states involved in the wars, in their interpretations of the Balkan Wars developments, only continued where the policy makers of their respective countries had stopped, with unrealistic assessments of the events and justifications of the concepts behind the main political streams of the period. The issues on which the views of the Balkan historians diverge until present days are: did Macedonian nation exist in the time of the Balkan Wars ; what was the effective Ottoman military strength in the specific war theaters ; who was first to conquer some specific places and cities ; where to place the responsibility for outbreak of the inter- allied war.
